there are many skilled neurosurgeons in the US but few who are skilled in skull base surgery and even fewer who are skilled in removing petroclival and cerebellopontine area (CPA) meningiomas.

if you’ve found yourself with a meningioma in one of these hard to reach places in your skull base, it’s absolutely crucial that you consult with one or several skull base surgeons. a general neurosurgeon who does not specialize in the skull base will not provide you with the information you’re looking for.

below is a list of the top skull base surgeons i’ve found in the u.s. after researching extensively through national lists, online forums, and personal stories. each surgeon has a different sub-area of specialty (e.g. pituitary, trigeminal, etc) or preferred approach (e.g. retrosigmoid craniotomy, endoscopic, etc), so click through to see which surgeons might be the best fit for your specific needs, and try to consult with a few different surgeons before making a decision.

many of these hospitals and clinics offer remote second opinion services, where a surgeon will review your mri images and offer a second opinion remotely. i would recommend initiating this process as early as possible, since it will often take 2-3 weeks before you receive an opinion.
